Shit I be bumpin lately

Last few months or so ive been making it a point to waste money on finding something decent to listen to. I have many things i fall back on but im a nut who's always on the prowl for some new sound. A new artist or band i can arrogantly claim i discovered before anyone else. Its happend before. Many times in fact. For example the time i was in Tower Records and bought Slipknots first record months before they played their star making sets at Ozzfest. To think the album i bought just because the cover was cool would be the album i would hear non stop until i stopped thinking it was cool. I still dig the record for the most part but can no longer fully raise my horns amd bang my head AS hard since the band has turned fully into Stone Sour with masks on.
I swear one day im gonna do a blog on bands called "What the fuck happend?!" and Slipknot is at the top of the list.
It happens in reverse to as sometimes im late to the party. As was the case with what would quickly become my favorite band like evaarrr, The Mighty Faith No More. Thanks to the interwebs i discovered more songs of theirs that werent Epic or Falling to Pieces and ran out to check it out. A week later i had purchased all 4 LPs and started my weird loud trip down Mike Patton lane.
So yea every so often i dip my toe into foreign waters and come up with some gems. While i appreciate full albums sometimes i get stuck on a particular track for quite some time. To appease my ears i make mixed cds i blast around town in my Con Edmobile scaring all dutiful housewives and the elderly with. Hear is a track by track review of my latest monstrosity.

1) Psycho Killer by Twiztid.

Dumped as a bonus track on their free to download Cryptic Collection 5 Holiday Mix this little ditty was an unused track from the W.I.C.K.E.D sessions. I can see why it wasnt used. The album had a seriously dark tone to it and this song is slightly more upbeat if u can believe it. Its not perfect as the productions not all that great but the blistering flow Madrox and Monoxide deliver makes it worthwhile. The hook is catchy but too cartoony for my taste. Maybe its my biased on Twiztid to not give this track a fail but to be honest its been stuck in my head since last week.

2) To Catch a Predator by ICP

Oh gee what a shock. An ICP track on one of my mixed cds. I cant help it though. This track is fuckin awesome. Its them at their best. Talking about killing child molesters with a slick beat and funny ass delievery. I havent heard Violent J rap this fast and brutally since Shangri La. Vintage ICP!

3) IV by X Japan

Not the hugest fan of this band. I know theyve been a big influence in japan to bands like Dir En Grey but theyre too Iron Maiden like for me. This song is pretty good though. I first heard it while playing Rock Band with my friend Steve and was impressed. This song appears on the Saw 5(?) soundtrack and its fitting. Its dark but heavily melodic and if they were to continue as a band i would hope they would sound like this. I might actually convert.

5) Bad Romance by Lady Gaga

Oh u didnt know? Yea i like cock. Yep i said it. Ive gotten a lot of shit for liking the Gaga (and cock too) but i cant deny a good catchy pop tune. I did at first as the first time i heard it i didnt like it. Its grown on me and now i find myself stopping whenever it comes on. I get the lyrics but cant fully get down to them since im a dude (and not really gay, no swear) but the beat is pretty sick. A heavy drum line beating me over the head screaming Gaga (or Haiti) and ive been beaten into submission.

6) Deeper Vileness, Cage, and another song that escapes me by Dir En Grey

DEG have really grown into probably my second favorite band ever. I cant stop playing them. Theyre probably the heaviest band i still play constantly which 15 year old me would be furious about but out of all the different kinds of metal bands out today none hold any interest to me except a bunch of dudes from Japan. What the hell happend to me i often wonder.
Whats more interesting is that ive also included the song Cage from their first record. A album where they dressed like chicks and sounded pretty much like any song ud hear at the end credits of an anime. Yet again i revert to my "oooh pretty song me play" arguement. Yes its in japanese. Kyo hasnt had a mental breakdown yet but the fuckin song is catchier than herpes and i love every fuckin second of it. At the last show i went to i was hoping against hope they would bless us all with a quickie rendition but alas they obviously prefer to stick to screaming and bleeding. Which is fine but i and my buddy Steve, who introduced me to the band, maintain americans fans would eat the shit up.

7) Love Song For the Unloved by Sheer Terror

This song has two histories for me. The first being this was the first hardcore song i really really dug. Back in high school my friend Pat gave me a mixed tape of random hardcore bands as a bit of an introduction to the genre and this song stood out above the rest. Right away i asked him for the entire catalog of the band and thus my hardcore days were born.
My second history came a decade later when the words of the song actually had a meaning behind it. It came on randomly last year at just the right time and it felt appropriate to revisit that again a year later.

8) Perfect Twist by Mike Patton

I discovered this song while trolling through itunes looking up MP shit i dont have. It comes from a soundtrack to a movie MP scored himself.
The story goes that the guy that directed the movie was a video store clerk MP went to. They struck up a friendship and when the guy said he was working on a movie himself MP offered to do the soundtrack. That is of course totally unfair. I too was a video store clerk and the only celebrity i ran into was Craig Bierkos older brother who it turns out hates his brother. This douche lucks out an gets a musical genious. What the fuck?
I wont watch the movie cause its probably lame but this song is of course awesome. Its got a swingin surfer vibe to it and Patton is as always amazing. If i was to say to search out any song on this list itd be this one.

9) I Want You by Mugison

Not only is Patton a terrific artist in his own right but he also pays it forward with his own label where u can discover a slew of interesting artists and bands like himself and his fifty fuckin bands. Mugison is one such artist. A dutch Beck if u will. His songs are generally meloncholy and hard to explain but he leans to the folk bluesy electronica left side of the spectrum.
This little ditty is his best song in my always right opinion (fuck u Steve). Its sad and a tad depressing but rich enough to be poppy. The video that i saw on youtube is interesting as well and has a naked lady in it so u might wanna check that out.

10) When Worlds Collide by Powerman 5000

Another band on the what the happend list. A one hit wonder to be sure but thanks to my friend Anthony and having a mutual affection for this simple crappy song its been in my head on and off for months now. To the point where i just had to drunkenly scream my fat little heart at kareoke to it. Ugh what an embarrassment.

11) Renegade by Styx

U ever hear a song and thinks its cool and then u find out who actually did it amd u become so utterly ashamed for liking this song that the only rational thing to do is own it like uve never owned it before? Thats this song for me.
This. Is my jam y'all.
Two years ago i was watching Supernatural and this song came on and i said to myself "damn that rocks." but i was too lazy to get off my fat ass and actually see who sung it. Then a few months back at kareoke with DJ Marc i remembered the song and with my trusty phone googled it amd lo and behold it was Styx. Mr Roboto Styx. Come Sail Away Styx. Motherfuckin LADY Styx.
Oh the shame i felt in that moment. Not shameful enough to not have Marc play it and right away i just said fuck it and owned it. I had no other choice.
Fuck u. I like Styx.

12) Pa Pa Power by Dead Mans Bones

Ryan Gosling makes me wanna punch him in the nards for liking him. He can do bad movies but ill stick like him and now he does music and i like that too. Dammit. Next hes gonna cure cancer and more people are gonna like him.
Anyway this a good catchy hipster song with him singing the same lyrics over and over again but the real bright spot is the kids choir hes got backing him up. They add a level of creepy coolness to the song that keeps me coming back for more. Plus Ryan doesnt have a half bad voice for the kinda music hes doing. Somewhat Nick Cavish but not so much to be a parody. The whole album is worth checking out if u havent.

So there u have it. Not one of my better blogs but it was a good time killer. The old lady is outta work so time to get food and maybe watch some Mirrormask when we get home. Havent seen that movie since it came out. Bought it the other day so maybe itll be better on second viewing.
